How it started

The line on the board is an instruction: “Run this today.” That sets the tone for the whole identity — this is a brand about doing the thing, not about the category it sits in.

So the mark is a geometric monogram rather than an illustration, and the palette is only three colours: ink, paper and one signal amber. Three is a deliberate constraint for a software brand, where the interface itself needs most of the colour budget for state and meaning.

The board delivers the mark on ink and on paper, which for this brand is the real pair — a dark product UI and a light marketing page — rather than the print-led light-and-reversed split most identities get.

What it had to do

A mark that holds at favicon size on a dark interface: the symbol on ink and on paper, a three-colour palette with its codes, and a heavy display face with a plain UI face under it.

  • A geometric symbol that survives being 16 pixels wide
  • A version for a dark product UI and one for a light page
  • A three-colour palette, so the interface keeps the rest of the spectrum
  • One accent that means 'act', used sparingly enough to still mean it
  • A heavy display face with a plain interface face under it

The sketch sheet

Concept sheets drawn as art direction for this page — they show how the mark and its placements were worked out, and are not scans of the original client drawings.

On the gridA mark that has to work at favicon size is a grid problem. The studies are drawn over a module with the stroke weight and corner radius written down, because at sixteen pixels those two numbers are the entire design.Concept visual

Where it ends up

Process visuals — art direction by Dalc, not photographs of client production. A software mark lives on a screen and, occasionally, on a wall. We art-directed both — neither image is a photograph of this client's office or product.

In conclusion

Three colours and a gridded symbol is a small kit, and that is the point: a software brand spends its colour on the interface, so the identity has to be the quiet part of the system rather than a competitor to it.

With the codes on the board and the mark specified on both ink and paper, the brand can sit in a product, on a landing page and on a sign without a separate decision each time.
